Drum Birthing Workshop - May 2026

To birth a drum is to call a spirit into being.

This one-day ceremonial workshop is an initiation into relationship, craft, and listening. Together, we will walk the ancient path of drum birthing, honouring the spirits of hide and wood, and entering into conscious partnership with the drum that is waiting to meet you.

This drum birthing takes place in the season of Beltane, a threshold time of fire, fertility, and life-force rising. Beltane marks the moment when the land awakens fully, when desire, creativity, and vitality move from seed to flame. It is a time of union: earth and fire, body and spirit, intention and action. To birth a drum in this season is to call in a companion that carries momentum, courage, and the medicine of becoming.

Shamanically, the drum is a bridge between worlds, but it is also a heartbeat. At Beltane, that heartbeat quickens. The spirits of hide and wood meet the fire of transformation, and what is born is a drum that knows how to move energy, stir life-force, and walk with you through change.

This is a powerful time to begin a relationship with a drum, especially if you are standing at the edge of something new, creative, or alive within you.

Through guided journeying, prayer, woven intention, and hands-on making, you will be led to meet the spirit of your drum before it takes form. You will learn how to lace your drum slowly and intentionally, weaving your breath, voice, and intention into every pull of the cord. This is not simply a craft day, but a rite of passage, one that invites presence, reverence, and trust.

As the day closes, we will call the drum fully into being and you will step into the role of drum keeper. You will receive its name, its medicine, and the wisdom it carries for your path, anchoring the beginning of a living relationship that will continue long after the workshop ends.

You will leave with a beautiful 16” stag-hide drum, born by your own hands. I often have other hides and woods available, including reindeer, horse, and rosewood. If you feel called to work with a specific ally, please contact me directly to discuss availability before booking.
